Classic gambling is fascinating. Roulette has been a prime example of traditional betting on chance for centuries. Every ambitious lucky knight will sooner or later be found at the roulette table in the online casino or in the arcade around the corner. There are no roulette systems that guarantee a long-term profit, but gamblers can increase the chances of making a financial profit by knowing the rules of roulette. So how exactly does roulette work and how are the probabilities and payout percentages calculated for certain bets and tips?
The game principle is simple: Before the croupier speaks the magic words “nothing works”, all players have to place bets on a playing field. Each individual bet corresponds to a specific event, a drawn number between 0 and 36. The zero is highlighted in green, all other colors alternate between black and red. Which number in a game is the winning number is determined by turning a ball in the roulette wheel. The likelihood of drawing the numbers does not change between individual games, so that from one draw to the next it cannot be concluded that the odds have changed. If a player can predict the number drawn, a win results. Otherwise, it usually goes completely empty.
Classic gambling in French roulette
The best known and oldest variant of the roulette game is French roulette . In most German and European casinos the game system with 37 numbers including the green zero is used. The first records of this type of roulette game, which is still the most popular today, date back to 1658. Previously, slightly modified variants such as small and German roulette had prevailed in gambling circles.
Roulette rules and game system
A roulette game starts with the betting. This is only possible after the request “make your game”. As soon as the croupier decides that enough bets have been placed at the table, he turns the roulette wheel in the bowl and throws the ball in against the direction of rotation. Players can still place bets until the croupier deprives them of this option with the words “Nothing works anymore”. If the ball is definitely in the field of a winning number, the banker announces it out loud. There is also the respective color. In addition, all simple chances of winning that have won are announced. The croupier then draws the bets of all lost bets from the field and begins paying out the chances of winning that have made a profit.
Fixed maxima
Both online and at the casino around the corner usually have maximum winnings. Against the background of a minimum wager, there are odds that set maximum winnings. There are two reasons for this: on the one hand, excessive profit payouts can be prevented, which could lead to the bankruptcy of the casino. On the other hand, casinos prevent a roulette strategy. The Martingale game is based on the fact that if the bet on a color is lost, the bet is doubled until a win has been made. This roulette system is also statistical unsuccessful, but profits are not excluded. By curbing stake and maximum winnings, players are deprived of the chance to achieve guaranteed success through special financial efforts. The specific and usual maximum bets that result against a background of a minimum bet of 10.00 euros can be found in the following table:
bet | odds | Max Bet | maximum profit |
---|---|---|---|
Simple opportunities | 1: 1 | 12,000 € | 12,000 € |
Dozens, columns | 2: 1 | 6,000 € | 12,000 € |
Transversal simple | 5: 1 | 2,400 € | 12,000 € |
Carré | 8: 1 | 1,500 € | 12,000 € |
Transverse line | 11: 1 | 1,100 € | 12,100 € |
Cheval | 17: 1 | 700 € | 11,900 € |
Plein | 35: 1 | 350 € | 12,250 € |
Advantage of the casino
The roulette game is designed in such a way that the advantage of every roulette game always lies with the bank, i.e. the casino. Even by combining different bets, it is not possible to achieve a probability of winning in relation to the possible payout and the stake of over 50 percent. Roulette is played according to the motto “the bank always wins”.
The expectation of winning various roulette games | |
---|---|
EU / FR Roulette with La Partage | 98.65% |
EU / FR roulette without La Partage | 97.30% |
Card roulette | 96.30% |
Mini roulette | 96.15% |
AM Roulette | 94.60% |
Even experienced players cannot dissolve this advantage. Since every drawing of the winning number in roulette always takes place under the same probabilities, it is not possible to speculate from one play on one tendency to the next. For example, if a black number has been drawn in three games in a row, it cannot be assumed that a red number will be more likely the next draw. The odds on events are always the same. Roulette systems like the 50-50 game are therefore not applicable. All tactics result in loss on a statistical basis and on a rational basis based on the probabilities .
Overview of betting options
Within the roulette game rules there are fixed chances to distribute your own bet on different bets. Gamblers are usually allowed to give several tips and combine chances with each other. However, they do not gain an advantage based on the probabilities.
Simple opportunities with high probabilities
The most popular betting options include all tips in the area of simple opportunities. Players can bet on either Noir (black) or Rouge (red). According to the roulette game rules, it is also possible to tap both colors at the same time. However, since a win only doubles the stake and the probability of the events occurring being less than 100 percent, such an undertaking makes no sense.
Simple opportunities with the same probabilities as in the Noir Rouge game are Impair and Pair. In the former, the gambler relies on the number being drawn being even. The latter denotes an odd number. According to the mathematical principles, the zero is neither even nor odd.
On a roulette field, the numbers are divided into 18 digits each. With a bet on Manque, a player predicts that the drawn digit is stored in the range from 1 to 18 inclusive. 19 to 36 is played with yoke. Here, too, the chances of winning are 48.7 percent, just under half.
Multiple opportunities
In the area of multiple opportunities, the so-called plein is a basic betting option. Lucky knights bet on one of the total of 37 numbers and hope that exactly this number will be drawn. The payout ratio here is usually 35 to 1, so playing on all numbers is not economically interesting. According to the roulette rules, however, it is possible to bet on a few selected digits, which will still be used to win a single win.
By placing the bet on the middle between two digits on the tableau, a participant plays the so-called cheval, called split in English. Such a bet is only feasible for neighboring numbers. It does not matter in which constellation the numbers on the tableau are put together. The payout ratio is 17 to 1.
Instead of two digits, with the possibility of betting the transverse pleine, you can also bet on three numbers in a transverse row on the tableau. If the croupier places the chips in the casino accordingly, the lowest and the highest number must always be named. The payout here is 11 to 1.
Within the previous betting options, a bet on the number zero is only possible on the plein. The roulette rules of the game allow the allusion to zero through the Les trois premiers. The numbers 0.1 and 2 are used for a payout ratio of 11 to 1 again.
In order to play four numbers with one bet, a payout of 8 to 1 can be achieved via the Carré. The typed digits must be adjacent to each other.
Les quatre premiers refers to a partial expansion of the Les trois premiers by 3. It is also a bet on four numbers, the payout ratio is 8 to 1 according to the Carré.
Lower profits, but also significantly higher chances of winning are available with the Transversale Simple. Six numbers are played, which are in two consecutive transverse rows. The willingness to bet becomes clear, for example, with the statement “Transversal 4-9”. Accordingly, the numbers 4 to 9 are all played equally. A win means a profit of 5 to 1 at the Transversale Simple.
What is called “Dozens” in international games is called Douzaines in French Roulette. The tableau divides the numbers 1 to 36 into three dozen, each of which is called Premier (1 to 12), Millieu (13 to 24) and Dernier (25 to 36). The chance of winning is almost a third, so that in the lucky case the bet plus double the amount of the bet will be paid to the lucky knight.
A similar division of the playing field is made over the Colonnes. Three groups again each comprise 12 numbers and offer a payout of 2 to 1. In the first column 34, the numbers 1, 4, 7, 10, …, 34 are played. Column 35 each includes a number up to and including 35, column 36 operates on the same principle.
Would you like to actively participate in the game of roulette? Then you should know the roulette rules very well. In principle, traditional gambling is very easy to understand and also offers a transparent insight into winning opportunities and chances of winning. For your first games, it can be helpful to have a table with the corresponding probabilities. If you choose an online casino, it is usually possible to tackle the first games of roulette with play money. So you get a better feel for the game and can get started with a little experience.
